Synopsis:

Being one of the most popular films in the festival last year, Hong Kong’s Road to the Abolishment of Death Penalty will be shown again this year. On April 21, 1993, the Legislative Council voted on the official abolishment of capital punishment in Hong Kong, with 40 in favor and 9 against. This film reconstructs a valuable part of Hong Kong history by conducting interviews with Mr. Martin Lee, a legislator who amended the above motion; Mr. Hon. Ronny Tong, who had once defended a death row inmate; Mr. Justice Eric Barnes; Mr. Cheng Po Hung, an expert Hong Kong historian; Uncle Po, an ex-death row inmate; and Father Franco Mella, an activist who strongly supported the abolishment of death penalty. With discussions nowadays about spirit of laws and social justice, the issue of death penalty calls for audience’s reflection.
